Phoenix, Valley of the Sun Connection Helps Local Racer Pursue His NASCAR Dreams

Concord, NC, September 01, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Local racer Todd Bennett, has found the connection between Phoenix, Arizona and the NASCAR Country of North Carolina, when he was invited to take part in a driver development test that could prove to be his link at climbing the tough ranks of racing. Bennett who currently races a Chevy Dwarf car carrying the #89 made the trip to North Carolina to test with Lafferty Motorsports who happens to field the #89 truck in the NASCAR Craftsman truck series.

This test, for Bennett, is just the start to what could be the break he has been looking for. During day one of the two day process Bennett was judged on race knowledge, marketability, and communication. Lafferty's also assessed Bennett's listening skills. Then day two came and it was time for the ultimate test, his driving ability. Bennett’s fifty plus laps on the track were interspersed with pit stops for assessment, instruction, reflection and questions ~ which were a test of his compatibility with the owner. Chris Lafferty, owner of Lafferty Motorsports stated “I am thrilled with what Todd has shown me over the past two days and we are excited to have him as part of the Lafferty Motorsports Development Team!”

Todd Bennett currently races dwarf cars at various "Valley of the Sun" locations including Canyon raceway and the famed Manzanita Speedway.

These Arizona racetracks have forged a passion and the need for speed in the hearts of many, including Chris Lafferty owner of Lafferty Motorsports. Phoenix and its dirt tracks had been the stomping ground for Chris Lafferty, years earlier when he lived in Phoenix. When Lafferty read that Bennett has been racing at Manzanita it brought back memories of his days racing dirt modifieds at the same track.

Lafferty who lived in Arizona years earlier made a very similar journey finding himself in North Carolina with nothing but his dreams of owning a race team. He has fulfilled that dream with Lafferty Enterprises which operates a racing team at the NASCAR Craftsman Truck and ARCA/ReMax series level. Now Lafferty will be helping Bennett fulfill his own racing dreams by accepting him as one of a select group of development drivers for Lafferty Motorsports. “I am extremely grateful to Chris and his race team for giving me an opportunity to showcase my talents,” said Bennett. “I look forward to learning all I can from him and with the Lord’s help run up front in as many races as possible.”

Although filled with nostalgia of his days in Arizona, Lafferty didn’t just hand Bennett a position on the team. "Todd and I shared many war stories, but our business was still business."

With plans of running a full season in Lafferty’s late model stock car, and possibly runring a select number of ARCA/ReMax races, Bennett will begin his development with Lafferty Motorsports running at least one race in Lafferty’s street stock at North Carolina’s famed Hickory Speedway.

Although there was no checkered flag Bennett is well on the road to victory lane with Lafferty Motorsports.
