William Peace University Launches Sport Management Program

Four-Year Baccalaureate University Expands Educational Offerings with the Added Concentration of Sport Management.

Raleigh, NC, July 26, 2013 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that the institution has expanded its educational offerings with the addition of a concentration in sport management within the business administration program.

William Peace University’s Raleigh location is ideal for hosting such a program. North Carolina is home to numerous pro and semi-pro teams and sports organizations, which creates a number of opportunities for WPU Sport Management students. WPU students have interned with the Durham Bulls, Carolina Hurricanes, NASCAR and USA Baseball. In addition, Raleigh has an abundance of public and private recreational facilities (e.g., parks and recreation, golf and tennis clubs) as well as high school and intercollegiate athletic programs where students can pursue internships and careers.

The William Peace University Sport Management program combines a Bachelor of Science in business administration with a concentration in sport management. This format affords students more opportunities for jobs and careers after graduation because first and foremost the students earn a business degree. The WPU program varies greatly from the majority of sport management programs in North Carolina, which are housed primarily in physical education or parks and recreation programs.

The William Peace University program is additionally somewhat unique in that it takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of sport. Given that sport organizations are fundamentally businesses, students in the program must satisfy all requirements in the business core. Students will then take courses in business, law, anthropology and psychology to complete the concentration in sport management. The result is a student who is prepared for the management of a sport enterprise or any other business organization.

Quotes:
“The sports industry has become a dominant influence in American society and garners more media attention than any other industry,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. “As sport management continues to grow in popularity, it is critical that educators develop curricula that prepare the students who will eventually lead and transform this growing market. We are proud to announce the launch of our sport management concentration and look forward to the opportunities it will provide for our students in the years to come.”
