RCR8 Announces Launch of Outdoor Activity Finder Resource

RCR8 launches a location-based outdoor recreation activity finder available as an embeddable widget that lets publishers from bloggers to media companies and affinity groups include the service on their own sites.

Denver, CO, August 06, 2013 --(PR.com)-- RCR8 today announced the official beta launch of a service for outdoor recreation enthusiasts to find and share locations for their favorite pastimes.

The service includes listings for a wide range of activities including both urban and rural locations. Categories include more out-of-the-way sites for activities such as hiking, camping and fishing as well as city sports like BMX, skateboarding, kite flying, frisbee golf and sledding.

"The idea really grew from the desire to help families find outdoor spaces, both to promote healthy living and to offer free and low-cost alternatives to expensive commercial entertainment," said Sasha Gorelik, RCR8's Founder. "It's really intended as a public good and a partnership with municipal and regional recreation services."

RCR8 is designed to service both extreme sports fans looking to discover new terrain or wanting to share with others and to help parents find family friendly spots. RCR8 maps and makes it easy to find everything from water sports to winter sports, climbing to stargazing.

"Our goal is to provide a community service that helps get people outdoors and active," said RCR8's Founder and President, Sasha Gorelik. "We are reaching out to parks, municipalities and other institutions to help them promote the resources they oversee. We've also tried to make it incredibly easy for users to list locations themselves."

RCR8 makes the listings available for browsing on the web, mobile and on Facebook including a social component and activity feed. In order to make the information as broadly available as possible, RCR8 provides a free widget that lets publishers from bloggers to media companies and affinity groups include the service on their own sites while limiting the categories and / or geography of the listings to the publisher's area of focus.

Erik Sahl, Chief Technology Officer for RCR8 added, "We've built an algorithm that allows for discovery of new places by associating natural features with potential activities. This formula will get more intelligent over time, allowing us to make recommendations to users based on terrain, characteristics, and type of feature as well as user feedback. Its not just crowd-sourcing, its discovery and rating. This makes for a very unique capability."
