PledgeCents is Harnessing the Power of the Crowd to Fund Educational Needs

The education crowdfunding website, PledgeCents, continues to show the benefits of crowdsourcing as we begin a new school year.

Houston, TX, August 08, 2013 --(PR.com)-- PledgeCents (www.pledgecents.com), a new crowdfunding site dedicated to raising funds for schools K-12, is off to a great start in helping teachers provide required resources without the burden of paying out of pocket. Since their launch in April at the National School Boards Association’s 2013 conference in San Diego, PledgeCents has hosted and helped fund several causes. The education funding startup has even gained the attention of national media outlets and education resources like Edutopia, The George Lucas Educational Fund, for its innovative approach to funding schools.

Andyshea Saberioon, co-founder of PledgeCents, said the website has been very well received by educators everywhere. Despite having only been live primarily in the summer months, the crowdfunding site has attracted many new causes as teachers prepare for the upcoming fall semester. “We have gotten the word out and spoke to many schools this summer and are starting to see the results of our work. We expect to see a big ramp up in activity as the upcoming school year gets underway. We couldn’t be more excited to help connect individuals and corporations with schools in need worldwide!”

PledgeCents has successfully raised funds for various school-related needs, including study carrels, a community garden for outdoor learning, and science tools for lab experiments. One of the active causes currently on the site is raising money for new classroom projectors. “We hope to become a go-to source for schools looking to pay for any unfunded need, with the clear focus being on the quality of education the children are receiving,” says co-founder Ricky Johnson. “At the end of the day, it’s the kids who are most impacted by budget cuts.”

PledgeCents has also gained attention from the media, with their most recent article in US News & World Report’s Education blog, which recognized the site as one of four unique ways teachers can minimize spending their own funds on classroom expenses. Crowdfunding allows educators to share their classroom needs with members of the community as well as outside supporters. Unlike some crowdfunding websites, PledgeCents allows educators to receive funds raised regardless of whether the cause is fully funded.

“Educators can try a number of fundraising tactics because there are plenty of children’s educational needs that go unmet,” says PledgeCents’ Saberioon, pointing out several other money-saving techniques to help educators fill in any funding gaps created by budget cut-backs. “Some of these include back-to-school sales, grants, tax breaks, and recycled supplies. It is in everybody’s best interest to keep the quality of the youth’s education as our top priority. With the numerous organizations and money saving resources available to help schools, it’s just a matter of finding the alternative that works best for their needs.”
