Oakland Renegades to host the 2-day race to determine who will be representing the United States from this region at the 2014 International Dragonboat World Championships in Italy.

Oakland, CA, August 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Oakland Renegades Dragonboat Team proudly hosts their first Oakland Dragonboat Festival on August 10-11, 2013 at Lake Merritt in Oakland. This 2-day racing event will be the Pacific Dragonboat Association Regional Championship and Club Crew World Championships Qualifier to determine who will be representing the United States from this region at the 2014 International Dragonboat Festival Club Crew World Championships in Ravenna, Italy.

“I am pleased that Oakland has been chosen to host the International Dragon Boat Federation's Club Crew World Championship Qualifiers. The Bay Area is rich with many diverse teams and the Pacific Dragon Boat Association is so excited to bring this competition here," says Monica Sengstacken, President of the Pacific Dragonboat Association. “Some of the teams in this area have been around for more than 20 years, which is an exciting aspect of this sport. Dragon Boat Racing not only has proven to build strength, leadership skills, team building and friendships; it allows every age group to race and remain competitive.”

The Oakland Renegades will be hosting the Oakland Dragonboat Festival in conjunction with Bay Area Dragons, Oakland Department of Parks and Recreation, and the Pacific Dragonboat Association. Teams will be participating from California, Washington, Oregon and as far away as Arizona for this 2-day event. Racing starts at 8:00am and runs through 4:00pm both Saturday and Sunday. The Oakland Dragonboat Festival is free and open to the public for viewing.

“This weekend, the winning teams will have the opportunity to represent the United States at the IDBF World Club Crew Championships to be held in Ravenna, Italy in 2014. Sixteen of the strongest West Coast teams will be racing 46 crews at beautiful Lake Merritt over the two days,” says Sengstacken. "We are all looking forward to good weather and fast racing."
