Three-Year Ultrasound Accreditations Awarded to Mid-South Maternal Fetal Medicine

Memphis, TN, August 11, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Mid-South Maternal Fetal Medicine has been awarded its first-ever three-year accreditation in the area of fetal echocardiography ultrasound, and has been re-accredited in the area of obstetric ultrasound, by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM).

The AIUM is a multidisciplinary medical association of more than 9000 physicians, sonographers, scientists, students, and other health care providers. Established more than 50 years ago, the AIUM is dedicated to advancing the safe and effective use of ultrasound in medicine through professional and public education, research, development of guidelines, and accreditation. The AIUM’s accreditation process allows ultrasound practices the opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses, and to initiate changes for improving their overall operations. The AIUM developed this program in response to the many changes in the approach to healthcare delivery that have resulted in an increased scrutiny of diagnostic evaluations, as well as technical improvements that have allowed for the expanded use of ultrasound.

Mid-South Maternal Fetal Medicine achieved its accreditation by meeting rigorous voluntary guidelines set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. All facets of the practice were assessed, including the training and qualifications of the physician and sonographers, maintenance of ultrasound equipment, record-keeping practices, and the quality and interpretation of sonograms performed by the practice.

According to Christie Taff, sonographer for MSMFM: “We are especially excited about the new fetal echocardiography accreditation. Mid-South Maternal Fetal Medicine is the first practice in our area to obtain this, and it will be a tremendous asset to our treatment efforts.”
