Washington Student League Announces Fall Dirt Explorers Mountain Bike Program for Middle and High School Students

Dirt Explorers is a 4-week ride series starting September 21st open to all 7th-12th grade students who want to experience the great outdoors on a bike.

Seattle, WA, September 13, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The nonprofit Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance’s Washington Student League (WSL) has just announced their new fall program: The Dirt Explorers Club for students in grades 7 through 12. The Dirt Explorers Club offers teens a chance to explore new trails, make new friends, work on basic mountain bike skills, stay fit and simply have fun riding in the outdoors. Dirt Explorers is open to bike riders of any ability or fitness level.

The club meets every Saturday for four weeks (two weeks at one location, and two weeks at another location) and rides for two hours from 10:00am – 12:00pm. This gives participants the chance to explore new trails and build on new and existing skills throughout the month. Each session starts with warm up drills. Then club members hit the trails; exploring twisting single tract, rallying over roots and logs, and playing balance and agility games.

“The Dirt Explorers Club is our way of introducing more teens to the sport, as well as helping our current Washington Student League members continue improving their skills and exploring new trails,” states Lisa Miller, League Director. “Cycling teaches all of us that goal setting, persistence and tackling one mile at a time can lead to unimaginable achievements – a great lesson to learn at a young age – and the Dirt Riders Club is an ideal way to learn that lesson in a fun, stress-free and healthy environment.”

The Dirt Explorers Club is open to anyone in grades 7-12. However participants must be (or become) an Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance or Washington Student League member to register. Evergreen Membership can be included with registration. Cost is $100 for Washington Student League licensed riders or Evergreen members and $130 non-members (includes 1 year membership to Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance).

About Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance

Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance is Washington State’s largest mountain bike organization, with more than 10,000 followers, and is dedicated to trail maintenance and building, advocacy and education. Created in 1989 as a nonprofit, grassroots solution to local trail networks closing to riders, Evergreen has since grown to become a trusted partner with public land managers across the state, contributing more than 10,000 hours of volunteer labor in the past year alone. Evergreen is internationally known for creating both Colonnade and Duthie Hill mountain bike parks. In addition to the Washington Student League program, Evergreen currently offers classes for youth and adults, and is the current organizer of the annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day event, which saw more than 180 children participate in 2012.
