Jump$tart Coalition to Hold Its Fifth Annual Teacher Conference

Personal Finance Teachers will meet in Washington in November.

Washington, DC, September 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy will conduct its fifth annual National Educator Conference at the JW Marriott Washington, D.C., Nov. 1-3. This conference is designed specifically for classroom educators who incorporate personal finance education in PreK through 12th grade classrooms.

Conference sessions offer teachers an opportunity to:

-learn about resources and techniques that will help them to bring personal finance education to life in their classrooms;
-get ideas for becoming an advocate for financial education in their own schools and communities; and
-attend sessions designed to boost their own level of financial literacy and ability to manage money.

The conference facilitates networking among teachers from across the country and features an exhibit hall devoted to financial education resources. Teachers also have the option of scheduling a free, private, no-strings-attached session with a certified financial planner or an accredited financial counselor.

Through the generosity of Experian and Wells Fargo Foundation, the conference’s two underwriters, and many other sponsors, the cost for teachers to attend is highly subsidized.

“At the start of the recession, interest in financial education began to grow, while at the same time, school budgets were shrinking,” observed Dan Hebert, Jump$tart’s conference director. “We looked for a way to train and support teachers with minimal burden to their schools and, thankfully, our partners and supporters stepped up to help us in a big way.”

“We believe that a key element in effective financial education—or any education, for that matter—is the ability and enthusiasm of the teacher,” said Laura Levine, president and CEO of Jump$tart. “We hope this conference will not only provide teachers with the resources and information they need, but also, leave them with the feeling of support and encouragement from the financial literacy community, as well as their peers from across the country.”
