Ex-WNBA Player, Toccara Williams, Donates Money to Schools in Louisville with Sweet Rebound Elementary Basketball League

Sweet Rebound Combines Sports and Education to Benefit Local Schools by Donating Over $40,000 to Over 30 Elementary Schools.

Louisville, KY, September 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Ex-WNBA Player and Texas A&M Phenom, Toccara Williams, will start a 36-team elementary school basketball league in Louisville, Kentucky in December, 2013 while raising over $40,000 for local elementary schools. The Sweet Rebound Elementary Basketball League will be hosted at HOOPS Louisville with the season starting December 6, 2013 and continuing until March 14, 2014, complete with an All-Star Game and cheer competition, a Championship Tournament and Awards Ceremony. The league is open to school teams from 3rd to 5th grades, with the teams coming from Jefferson, Bullitt, Hardin and Oldham Counties.

With Sweet Rebound’s goal to use sports as a foundation built on an educational platform, Williams saw the connection of working with schools and basketball as a way to give back to schools. “Elementary schools don’t get the funding and financial support as middle and high schools do,” says Williams. “Being able to have basketball played in one of the nicest facilities in the country and use the Sweet Rebound League as a gateway to donate money to schools is a blessing.”

A blessing is right. Each school that participates receives a $1000 donation, with other opportunities for schools to raise more money during School Spirit Days as well as helping others in need by doing a can food drive during the Christmas holiday. Currently, Williams already has 31 of the 36 teams committed to play in the Sweet Rebound league in its inaugural year. “There is still time to add a few schools to the league, but the clock is certainly ticking,” states Williams.

Williams looks to use this league to get to know the schools and officials to learn the needs of the schools in the community. Hailing from Hollywood, Florida, Williams looks to make Louisville her second home by making a name for herself and her non-profit organization. There is no doubt that she will be able to do it. “Through her Sweet Rebound Foundation, Toccara Williams has launched her vision of raising the level of basketball in South Florida in a way that goes way beyond the court,” ESPN Sportscaster Mark Jones states. “As someone that talks basketball for a living, I know her system works!”
