Texas Schools Swipe Texas Trust Debit Cards

Texas Trust's Spirit Debit Reward Card was swiped more than 1.5 million times in the last 13 months, bringing in $225,000 for high schools in North Texas. One school, Cedar Hill High School, earned $47,856.81.

Mansfield, TX, September 21, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Schools in Grand Prairie, Mansfield, Cedar Hill, DeSoto and Athens school districts received more than $225,000 from Texas Trust Credit Union between August 2012 and August 2013 through the Spirit Debit Reward card. Since the inception of the program in August 2011, Texas Trust has donated nearly $340,000.

Texas Trust gives partnering schools 15 cents every time their Spirit Debit Reward card is used to make a purchase. Each school has a unique custom designed card that is available for members to use as an easy way to financially support the school of their choice. Within the five school districts, 14 high schools, two administration offices and one education foundation participate in the program.

Grand Prairie ISD and Mansfield ISD, more than doubled what they earned the first year of the program with $89,721.93 and $72,129.59 respectively. Cedar Hill ISD received $47,856.81, and Athens ISD $19,161.04. The highest earning individual school, Cedar Hill High School, received $47,856.81. Schools receive a check each month based on the previous months card usage, which they can spend as they deem appropriate.

Texas Trust Spirit Debit cardholders have made more than two million purchases with the cards to date.

"Texas Trust has given us a tool to easily raise money to supplement our budget, which continues to be squeezed," said Tammy Mariani, Principal at Cedar Hill High School. "The Spirit card also allows alumni, or anyone in the community, to support the high school indirectly just by using the Spirit Reward card for everyday purchases."

The Spirit Debit Reward card is part of Texas Trust's Spirit in Action campaign. Schools earn additional cash rewards when members open checking accounts, take out auto loans, personal loans or mortgages. Cardholders and schools can track how much money is being raised from the Spirit Debit Reward Card for their designated school on the Spirit Rewards Meter.
