Review Assistant 2.0 — Brand New UI and Plenty of Improvements in the New Version of Code Review Tool

Prague, Czech Republic, September 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Devart introduces the new version of the code review tool from Devart Review Assistant 2.0. It was greatly improved and provides a wide set of new features, the most important ones are the new UI, email notifications, and code reports. Devart development team has been receiving a lot of feedback since the last release, and working hard to improve the new version of Review Assistant.

New features in Review Assistant 2.0
New Code Review Board

In the latest version of Review Assistant the Code Review Board window has been completely redesigned. Users can evaluate all the advantages of the speed-of-light performance and more convenient application UI for Visual Studio 2012 and 2013.

Apart from that, there are many other updates:

Ambiguous controls for changing the review status are removed.

Role-specific review statuses are shown in the reviews list.

New filter for recently closed reviews is added.

The Code Review Board window has now a single scrollbar.

Email Notifications
The new version enables developers to set up email notifications about events occurring when the review is in progress.

Feature for obtaining notifications from all review projects, not only from the active one, is implemented.

Review links for browser-like navigation are added. Now Visual Studio can be opened right from the email client.

Code Review Reports
Review Assistant 2.0 introduces the basic reporting feature. There are four built-in report types:

Reviewer Statistics – to assess reviewers' activity.

Author Statistics – allows to evaluate roughly the quality of code involved in a review process.

Users Status – for evaluating current review workload per developer.

Reviews Status – helps to find “stale” reviews.

Reports actions:

An opportunity to set filtering settings depending on the project or a time span is added.

Functions for printing and exporting reports is supported.

Improved Commenting on Code
Alongside with general UX improvements, Devart developers have also greatly enhanced user experience related to commenting on code, such as:

The bug fixing control process is improved. Comments are linked to a file revision.

Multiple-line comments are fully displayed.

Comment’s author name is fully visible in the collapsed comment view.

The number of replies is now visible in the comment header.

The comment status is displayed as a bright text label.

Unambiguous comment status changing is supported.

Improved Code Review Process
The latest version of Review Assistant makes it possible for reviewers to track their progress. In addition, there are such useful improvements:

Automatic display of the latest unread changes in the file list is added.

An opportunity to pick manually files for a review from changesets is added.

An opportunity to edit the revision range for a review is implemented.

Simple review workflow is improved to avoid unwanted review auto-closing.

Multiple Repositories in One Review Allowed
Review Assistant 2.0 provides a numbed of updates with comprehensive facilities to make a code review execution much more effective:

An opportunity for authors to add code from more than one repository into a single review is implemented.

SVN Externals, Git sub-modules, and Mercurial sub-repositories are supported.

Closer Integration with TFS

Displaying of related work items in Code Review Board after adding changesets is implemented.

Creation a review for code associated with a work item in one click is implemented.

Creation a review changesets from the Source Control History window is added.

Visual Studio 2013 Support
The integration of Review Assistant with Visual Studio 2013 has been implemented.
