Martel United Methodist Church, Inc. of Lenoir City Partners with Biker Rags and Susan G. Komen Knoxville for 2nd Annual Ride for Jan

Lenoir City, TN, September 25, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Representatives for Martel United Methodist Church, Inc. of Lenoir City announced today that they have partnered with Biker Rags and the Knoxville affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the 2nd Annual Ride for Jan. This year’s event has expanded to include not only motorcycles of all kinds but also Mustangs from all eras. Dubbed “Hogs and Horses,” the 2nd Annual Ride for Jan will be held rain or shine on Saturday, October 12th beginning at 11:00 am at Biker Rags located at 10609 Kingston Pike in West Knoxville. Jeff and Pam Huggins, owners of Biker Rags expressed their excitement in being involved with this year’s ride. “We are proud be a part of the 2nd Annual Ride for Jan. Bikers are known for their involvement in worthwhile charities and the 'Hogs and Horses' event is a great cause. Thank you for letting Biker Rags participate in this ride.”

Martel United Methodist Church of Lenoir City held the very first Ride for Jan in honor of their beloved member, Jan Sica; who lost her battle with breast cancer in February 2012. An active children’s ministries advocate, one of Jan’s lifelong dreams was to build a church and school in Kenya. Through the community’s generous support and with the help of RIO International Church, they were able to make this dream come true.

This year, Martel UMC is chasing after a few more of Jan’s Dreams; among them, finding a cure for breast cancer and helping children in need here at home in East Tennessee and around the world. Proceeds from this year’s event will be split equally among the Jan Sica Memorial Church and School in Kenya, Susan G. Komen Knoxville and the Martel United Methodist CIA fund.

“Komen Knoxville is pleased to help honor Jan Sica and her dreams. We share in Jan’s dream for a world without breast cancer. Through events like this one, we are one step closer to finding those cures!” remarked Amy Dunaway, Director of Marketing and Fundraising for Komen Knoxville. “Seventy five percent of the net income raised through events like these in our community stays in our community to provide screening, treatment support and educational programs to women and men in our 16 county service area. The remaining 25% teams with Komen Affiliates across the nation to fund ground-breaking life-saving research to find the cures.”

Join Martel United Methodist and Susan G. Komen Knoxville at Biker Rags on October 12th for “Hogs and Horses” - the 2nd Annual Ride for Jan; a 100 mile police escorted ride through the countryside. Come out and enjoy live music, great food and prizes for registered hogs and horses. You can also learn more about breast cancer and the important research for a cure from representatives of Susan G. Komen Knoxville.
