High Moon Star Dana Davis Kickstarts a Campaign to Evolve Children's Programming

Dana Davis has starred in over 30 feature films and television programs in her career, but it is the action she is taking behind the camera that will have audiences take notice.

Los Angeles, CA, October 09, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Dana Davis has had success in a variety of roles throughout her career. She has played a head cheerleader (ABC Family's 10 Things I Hate About You), an ex-convict turned private investigator (TNT's Franklin & Bash) and a modern day mimic (NBC's Heroes)-just to name a few! But it is her role as a mother to her 2 year old daughter that has inspired her to take action behind the camera as well.

After being forced to watch hours of children's programming, she realized that the intelligence of children is being underestimated. "My daughter regularly kidnaps our music player and listens to Chopin, Michael Jackson and an abundance of music that probably seems too advanced for her, but then I realized that she has the capability to appreciate so much more if properly exposed to it," said Davis. Research has shown that active music making and listening can help children excel in ways beyond their ABCs. Active music making and listening increases language discrimination and development, math ability, improves school grades, better-adjusted social behavior, and improvements in spatial-temporal reasoning, a cornerstone for problem solving. Music is so important! And thus The Wish i Mayz was born.

The Wish i Mayz is a half hour live-action children's program that will make parents and caregivers want to watch television with their child. Davis' goal with this show is to educate children about the fundamentals of music and musical theater. So they're not just singing along... they're understanding the elements involved in making the music and actively participating. Davis is creating a show in which children can be both entertained AND educated, all while enjoying catchy tunes and dynamic characters families can all fall in love with.

Davis has wonderful connections with studios having worked on many network shows, but she is reaching out to parents and families through Kickstarter to help make this pilot a reality. She hopes that through donations, audiences will be inspired to be a part of this new movement towards quality education.

Dana Davis is currently filming the Sci-Fi drama pilot High Moon. She made her film debut in Coach Carter with Samuel Jackson, followed by starring roles in Raise Your Voice opposite Hillary Duff, and as Brittany Snow’s best friend in the cult teen thriller Prom Night. She has also guest starred on over 20 prestigious primetime series including: Body of Proof, Grey’s Anatomy, CSI, Bones, Pushing Daisies, Cold Case and CSI: Miami.

Extremely versatile, Davis is a classically trained violist, a successful screenwriter, and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from Loyola Marymount. She volunteers for nonprofits like Empowering Lives International, which provides training, resources and encouragement to underprivileged East African children. In December 2009, she created her own nonprofit organization, Culture for Kids LA, with the mission of bringing arts to inner city kids.

Davis was raised in the Midwest and currently lives in Los Angeles.
