Cloud Dynamics Granted Patent for Revolutionary ecoDC Technology

Cloud Dynamics Inc. receives patent for high-efficiency data center cooling technology.

Toronto, Canada, October 19, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Cloud Dynamics, a Toronto-based cloud enabler, today announced it has been granted the Canadian patent (Patent No. 2804086) for its revolutionary eco Data Center (ecoDC) technology that delivers highly-efficient, adaptive, eco-friendly cooling that cuts cooling costs dramatically.

The patent covers a self-contained, cabinet-based system that uses adaptive, right-sized cooling & free cooling technologies to reduce data center cooling energy costs by as much as 85-percent while increasing cabinet density by up to ten times.

The ecoDC has the capacity for heat extraction of up to 55 kW/cabinet with an ultra-low PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of less than 1.1.

“Between 45 to 65 percent of total power consumed in a data center goes towards cooling but CIOs and Data Center operators are challenged by the
limitation in right-sized cooling technologies,” explains Dr. Mirza Kamaludeen,

Chief Technology Officer of Cloud Dynamics, “Our adaptive eco cooling system addresses this very thing, and we while we are at it, we also developed free and high density cooling to address the energy issue challenge in its totality.”

“This patent proves Cloud Dynamics is a leader in providing environmentally responsible cloud data center solutions,” says Vijai Karthigesu, COO of Cloud Dynamics. “the future of cloud technology lies in highly efficient, high-density, software-defined distributed data centers and over the past two years we have proven that we can deliver such converged data center solutions with low CapEx and OpEx.”

Since its founding in 2011, Cloud Dynamics’ technology vision has been to remove the barriers that exist between the data center facilities, IT infrastructure and software silos in traditional data centers and create a new breed of truly converged data centers.

One key element in this strategy, as applied in the ecoDC technology, is to approach the challenge of data center cooling holistically by interlinking IT load with cooling. The ecoDC does this by monitoring the IT load in real time using a software-controlled automated process to control cooling according to the thermal demand.

In a recent report, the analyst firm Gartner argued the case for Infinite Data Centers that are built to accommodate compute growth indefinitely, and are designed to bring down cooling costs considerably through alternate cooling technologies. “We have been delivering this for the past two years,” observes Karthigesu.

Cloud Dynamics has multiple patents pending in Canada, the USA and internationally.
