Dr. Elizabeth A. Garcia-Janis is a double board certified child and adult psychiatrist who has been practicing Psychiatry for over 30 years. Throughout the many years of her professional career, she has worked with all age groups doing out-patient, in-patient, residential and community psychiatry work and has treated the most complicated psychiatric co-morbidities, integrating both psychotherapeutic treatment approaches and psychopharmacology. Dr. Garcia-Janis was the only psychiatrist in the Pine Ridge reservation, serving a population of 50,000 Native American Lakotas. She has worked with refugees, evacuees and displaced people and has been involved in volunteer short-term disaster relief work in many parts of the world. In 2009 she was awarded the Physician of the Year Award by the Medi-Star Medical News in Louisville Kentucky for her community service. She is also the recipient of the American Psychiatric Association Distinguished Fellow Award and has received awards for her local and global humanitarian relief efforts. Dr. Garcia-Janis is the founder and chair of the Phoenix Global Humanitarian Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to serve those who suffer disasters, losses and tragedies. She has published two books: "Utmost" (co-author) and "Your Compassionate Nature."
