Akron, OH, October 27, 2013 --(PR.com)-- In the spirit of “ “All Hallows’ Eve,” Gallery 15 will open the doors of the underground basement Saturday, November 2nd remembering the faithful departed who were once treated here at the former Green Cross Hospital. Ten artists collaborated over the past 2 months creating works in a wide array of mediums to express the imagery of dream states. These works are on display in the main gallery, on the rooftop & outdoor garden from 6pm to 11pm as part of the public closing reception contributing to the festivities of the Akron Artwalk.

Built in 1913, 15 Broad Street initially housed the largest U.S. manufacturer of glazed vitrified clay pipe. In the twenties, this area of Akron was the hub of brick and clay shops. By the thirties, many of the big players moved out of town and 15 Broad became the home to Green Cross Hospital, when a small group of osteopathic physicians purchased & renovated the building in 1943… the roots of Summa Health Systems.

At 8pm, guests will be led into the basement; the bowels of the former Green Cross Hospital. Here, the world of underground dreams will unfold in a multimedia multisensory experience; combining live music, interpretive dance & interactive video. Performance art directed by Mike Hovancsek; a therapist, visual artist, filmmaker & multi-instrumentalist. A resident of Kent, Mike has been performing for 25 years. Anastasia Pantsios of Cleveland Scene describes his work as "elegant, textured music that sounds spare and understated yet is quite complex.”

Mike performs with dancer Amy Unruh, renowned violinist Samuel Salsbury and tabla drummer Joe Culley. This world culture-collaboration of harmonies will travel the depths of the basement soothing the spirits as Samuel touches the haunting strings of his violin with the entrancing echo & exotic rhythm of Joe’s tabla. Carefully designed with sounds that penetrate the fabric of the material universe…taking the listener directly to the Underworld of Dreams.

Contributing artists include Debra-Lynn Hook, Cheryl Townsend, Brad Bolton, Joe Culley, Gingr Vaughan, Stefanie Workman, Mike Hovancsek, P.R. Miller, Michael Marras, Megan Shane.

The public is encouraged to meet the artists, enjoy music & drinks from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. For more information call Denise Bellis at 330-379-9000 x5030 or visit www.gallery15.com.
