Venture Forthe Opens Adult Structured Day Program in Buffalo for Individuals with Traumatic Brain Injuries
Buffalo, NY, November 16, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Venture Forthe today announced that it opened a Structured Day Program for adults with cognitive impairments. It is the only social day program in Buffalo to focus on serving adults who have suffered a traumatic brain injury. The program provides much needed support and services to an underserved population.
“Our program is unique in that we try to create a natural environment where the activities are tailored to the individuals’ wants and needs. We want our participants to be comfortable and feel at home when they come to the program. We focus on inclusion based activities where our participants can interact with peers and build relationships,” said Chris Roche, Director of Clinical Services.
The community-based program provides a social, individualized, and structured environment in which individuals work in small groups towards outcomes of their choosing. The focus is on improving daily living skills so the participants are able to live as independently as possible. Community activities and outings help improve communication, socialization, mobility and transportation skills. More structured activities are offered daily to focus on task competition, money management, and household skills.
Virginia, a Venture Forthe Structured Day participant, said, “The structured day program has helped me overcome handicaps both physical and emotional and made me a better person. It is nice to have people around who understand you and what it is like to have a brain injury.”
The program is open to anyone with a cognitive deficit but the focus is on serving the needs of individuals with traumatic brain injuries; all of the staff is trained on the specifics of working with individuals with TBIs, computer programs that help improve and track cognitive progress are offered and therapeutic activities such as music and art are central to the program. The program is offered as a service through the NYS Medicaid Waiver Program.
