NCIRE — the Veterans Health Research Institute — Launches New Digital Brand Created by dystrick design

New brand positions NCIRE, the leading resource for research in veterans’ health and a compelling choice for donor support in an area commonly perceived as government funded.

San Jose, CA, September 20, 2007 --(PR.com)-- dystrick design, Inc., a creative design and communications agency, today officially announced the launch of the newly designed NCIRE website. The digital brand project presented challenges in meeting the needs of disparate groups: medical researchers, veterans and their families, and in a new initiative for the organization, potential donors. The dystrick-driven result is a digital brand that seamlessly brings veterans, researchers, and donors together emotionally as well as intellectually and meets different information needs via effective information architecture and complementary design. See the result at www.ncire.org.

NCIRE, the Northern California Institute for Research and Education, is a self-funded private nonprofit research institute established by Congress to improve veterans’ health. NCIRE is the largest of 86 nonprofit research institutes associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs nationwide. Since NCIRE's founding in 1988, the institute has created a home for some of the most outstanding biomedical researchers in the United States. NCIRE selected dystrick to design and develop a digital brand presence to reflect their mission—to improve the health and well-being of veterans and the general public by supporting a world-class biomedical research program conducted by the UCSF faculty at the San Francisco VA Medical Center.

The overarching objectives were as follows:

• Deliver to an audience that ranged from the public to highly specialized experts with a rich understanding of NCIRE investigators and their complex work
• Engage potential donors to connect with the NCIRE brand while clearly articulating the breadth and value of NCIRE’s research to the community.
• Differentiate NCIRE and allow it to compete with all other nonprofits, including those not involved in veterans’ health, for donor mindshare

NCIRE’s focus—veterans’ health— appeals to a niche audience in its technical details, but to a wide audience who support US veterans’ health and advances that help general public health. In addition, dystrick had to address in messaging, information architecture, and design a common perception that veteran issues are a governmental responsibility.

“dystrick helped us achieve our complex online goals,” said Susan Dugdale, NCIRE’s Manager of Design and Creative Services. “Not only did they provide us a valuable outside perspective, helping us steer clear of potential pitfalls so our site performs better, but their process engaged our internal resources effectively and made each step transparent to our executives. As a result, we could free up internal resources to focus on core business, while our executives were confident we were creating the highest quality Web presence.”

The unveiling of the Website coincides with NCIRE’s first annual “Above & Beyond” gala, a benefit for veterans’ health research. For more information go to http://www.ncire.org/above_and_beyond.php
