William Peace University Continues Speaker Series with Presentation by Korrel Kanoy, Ph.D., Dec. 7

Four-Year Baccalaureate University Features Professor Emerita of Psychology Discussing Children’s Emotional Intelligence

Raleigh, NC, November 23, 2013 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University, a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, has announced that the next presentation as part of its 2013-2014 Speaker Series will feature Korrel Kanoy, Ph.D., professor emerita of psychology, on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Leggett Theatre, located at 15 E. Peace St. Dr. Kanoy will discuss her book, The Everything Parents Guide to Children’s Emotional Intelligence: How to Raise Children Who Are Caring, Resilient, and Emotionally Strong, and she will sign copies afterwards with a Q&A session.

With more than 30 years of educational experience, Kanoy will explore children’s emotional intelligence while providing parents with skills to help their children reach their greatest potential. She notes that a child with high emotional intelligence has good self-control, resilience and empathy – all factors that help build a foundation for a more grounded, satisfying and successful life.

Kanoy joined the university’s faculty in 1981 as a professor of psychology, followed by serving as dean of academic affairs from 2006-2009 and in various administrative roles before retiring. She helped lead the university’s Institutional Research during the 2011-2012 academic year by increasing the use of assessment and other data, which prepared William Peace for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) review for reaccreditation. In addition to teaching psychology, Kanoy co-founded Developmental Associates, LLC, with former William Peace professor Dr. Heather Lee in 2004. Developmental Associates is a consulting firm that specializes in developing emotional intelligence and leadership skills for individuals working in education, government and nonprofit settings.

The discussion is free and open to the public, but registration is required in advance. For more information and to register, visit http://bit.ly/1e5U66L.
