Local Favorite The Institute of Chili Tops Food & Wine Magazine's List of Best Chili in the U.S.

One of the hottest food spots in San Antonio's burgeoning food truck scene wins yet another accolade.

San Antonio, TX, November 26, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The Institute of Chili, the buzzworthy San Antonio food truck that's been garnering accolades since its launch in March 2012, has picked up yet another. Food & Wine Magazine has The Institute of Chili sitting pretty atop their list of Best Chili in the U.S, alongside venerable D.C.eatery Ben's Chili Bowl.

"We're beyond proud to be named as one of the best by Food & Wine," says founder Ana Fernandez. "Chili con carne is a uniquely Tex-Mex food. The original San Antonio chili queens started it all, and we're thrilled to carry on that street food tradition right here in Texas."

This latest honor is another feather in the cap for Fernandez and chef Jenn Villanueva. They were named Grand Champions in the San Antonio "Twisted Taco Throwdown" and have been featured on PBS's "Daytripper" and the Latin American channel Utilissima's "MOTOCHEF" TV program with celebrity chefs Aquiles and Aarón Sanchez, of The Food Network's "Chopped" and "Heat Seekers."

The Institute of Chili was inspired by the legendary San Antonio Chili Queens, a group of 19th century Mexican-American women who set up stalls in San Antonio's outdoor plazas selling chili con carne to shoppers and passers by. Founded by artist and entrepreneur Ana Fernandez, The Institute operates from various locations in San Antonio including Alamo Street Eat Bar in Southtown, The Point Park & Eats in Leon Springs, and The Block SA near the University of Texas San Antonio campus.
