Old Chatham Assistant Golf Professional Honored by the Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) Carolinas Section

Durham, NC, December 11, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Old Chatham Golf Club, a prestigious Triangle-based golf club, has announced that Brian Joyce, the club’s assistant golf professional, has won the Assistant Golf Professional of the Year Award presented by the PGA Carolinas Section. The Assistant Golf Professional of the Year Award honors the Class A-8 assistant professional who exhibits the promise and dedication that will lead the association in coming years. Joyce was chosen for the honor for continually demonstrating a high level of excellence at Old Chatham and service to the PGA Carolinas Section, while promoting the game of golf and projecting the image of a golf professional.

The PGA Carolinas Section is the largest of the PGA’s 41 sections and includes more than 2,000 professional members. Covering North and South Carolina, as well as parts of southern Virginia, the section currently has members employed at more than 725 golf facilities throughout the region. According to the National Golf Federation, North and South Carolina are home to more than 900 golf courses.

As an assistant golf professional at Old Chatham, Joyce teaches all aspects of golf to club members and assists in upkeep of the club’s shop. A lifelong golf enthusiast, Joyce became a professional player in 2007 and played in several mini-tours before switching his emphasis to teaching the game. He remains active as a player while working at his present position. In April 2012, he and another Old Chatham assistant golf professional, Brian Stewart, competed and won the top two spots at the Carolinas PGA Class A Member qualifier in Raleigh, N.C.
