Roots Market Partners with the Olney Boys and Girls Club
Roots Market, Montgomery County’s best, new Natural Foods Store, has partnered with the Olney Boys and Girls Club this fall to support over 100 youth athletes. Roots Market identified the OBGC as a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle to youth in the Olney community who are just beginning to learn the importance of “Green Living.”
Olney, MD, September 23, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Roots Market, Montgomery County’s best, new Natural Foods Store, has partnered with the Olney Boys and Girls Club this fall to support over 100 youth athletes. Roots Market identified the OBGC as a great way to promote a healthy lifestyle to youth in the Olney community who are just beginning to learn the importance of “Green Living”. The Olney Boys and Girls Club provides extracurricular sports for an estimated 45,000 children in the Olney area and currently has nearly 7,000 children that play sports for the Club annually.
This fall Roots Market has sponsored seven teams in soccer, baseball, softball and field hockey. Kate Smith, manager of Roots Market, has played an integral part in building a relationship not only with the OBGC, but with the youth athletes and their families. Smith, an Olney native, has volunteered with other Roots employees each Saturday to provide the sponsored teams with organic navel oranges and grapes, as well as reusable bags for the parents. This simple gesture by the Roots Market staff has been well received. Smith adds, “They have never had a sponsor so involved; when they found out the staff that attends the games are volunteers and are not being paid to do so they were that more impressed and commented, ‘Roots Market is a very special place, far from the norm.’”
