Launching Bazaart 2.0 – a Social Photoshop for the Masses

The free iOS app lets anyone create composite images easily on their mobile device.

Tel-Aviv, Israel, December 20, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Bazaart Ltd. (bazaart.me), an Israel based startup, announced today the launch of Bazaart® 2.0 for the iPhone and iPad, an app that allows every user to create composite images from photos on mobile devices, with intuitive and powerful tools previously reserved for pros using desktop applications. Pivoting away from their original vision of a Pinterest based fashion catalog, the DreamIt Ventures backed startup has spent the last year rebuilding its app from scratch as a social photo editor. The new app leverages its proprietary CanvasEngine™ image-processing technology to help people around the world tap their creativity in a free, easy and fun way. To date, Bazaart has gained 250K mobile downloads and its 100K MAU (monthly active users) created over 350K composite images using more than 2M photos.

“The new Bazaart is a game changer,” said Stas Goferman, co-founder and CEO of Bazaart. “Up until now, people who wanted to get creative with their photos and make elaborate edits could not always accomplish it because it was only possible with expensive professional software like Photoshop. We aim to change that. With the new free Bazaart app people can make anything from photos, whenever they want to, and wherever they are. Our hope is that what Instagram did for photography, Bazaart will do for photoshopping.”

With the Bazaart photo editor, users can seamlessly remove the background of a photo automatically (using a state of the art computer vision algorithm) or manually, manipulate the photos with simple touch gestures, control the opacity of each photo, add text, and use as many photo layers as needed. “The uniqueness of the CanvasEngine™ technology is that it allows for very precise touch gesture recognition, as applied in the manipulation of photos, expanding on Apple’s native touch detection. This is done efficiently, while handling hundreds of layers on the creation canvas and maintaining a minimal memory footprint. Nothing like this is possible on any other mobile app,” adds Stas.

The new app offers an extensive array of photo sources, ranging from the user’s own social photo outlets, such as Facebook, Instagram, Flickr, Google+ and Etsy, to Gilt Groupe’s Fashion and Home Decor items, 500px photographs, as well as Bing web image search. People use Bazaart for a wide variety of purposes, such as making funny photos, playful selfies, celebrity collages or pieces of art. In addition, Bazaart allows people to discover how each image was created - by simply tapping it, they can see its individual photos. The photos comprising the image are also explorable - they are linked to their web sources, and can be viewed in their original website via an in-app browser.

Bazaart was designed to be social from the ground up. Therefore, in addition to its creation features, the app allows exploring multiple image channels focusing on topics such as Funny, Selfies, Art, Celebs, Fashion and more. Users can find people whose images inspire them, engage with them, follow them, and browse a custom feed of their favorite creators.
