LDRA Takes Leadership Role in Verifying Russian Avionics Software

LDRA secures contracts with Russia’s five largest avionics suppliers, extending LDRA’s record of helping the most companies achieve DO-178 certification often to stringent Level A requirements.

Wirral, United Kingdom, December 21, 2013 --(PR.com)-- LDRA, the leader in standards compliance, automated software verification, source code analysis, and test tools, announced that it has secured contracts with Russia’s five major avionics suppliers. LDRA’s contracts assist with the verification of EASA and FAA regulations that suppliers must comply with for both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft to be used in domestic and international markets. The LDRA tool suite automates and streamlines the certification process, helping these avionics suppliers to achieve DO-178C/ED-12C and DO-254/ED-80 most cost effectively.

For more than 40 years, LDRA has championed the development of superior software practices in the avionics industry. These efforts have led to the development of the broadest range of software testing and verification capabilities that enforce and streamline avionics certification compliance throughout the world. In Russia, the LDRA tool suite has been used to verify systems for onboard computers, integrated air data, integrated flight and navigation, data display, lighting, in addition to various instruments and sensors for aircraft such as the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ-100), Tupolev Tu-204 (TU-204), and the upcoming Irkut MC21 (also known as the MS21).

“LDRA’s track record of helping qualify hundreds of DO-178 projects worldwide gave us confidence that the LDRA tool suite would significantly improve our processes,” stated Sergey Zhelepov, Onboard Software Verification Group Leader for the Russian firm Ulyanovsk Instrument Manufacturing Design Bureau (UIMDB). “The LDRA tool suite has automated our verification process at every stage—for code verification, code coverage, unit testing, secure coding rules, and standards adherence—helping us to reduce the number of man hours in our certification efforts by 5-10 times.”

“LDRA prides itself in helping more companies achieve DO-178 certification, often to the most stringent Level A requirements, than any other software test provider,” confirmed Ian Hennell, LDRA Operations Director. “These five Russian avionics suppliers join avionics vendors from the United States, France, the United Kingdom, and China in choosing the LDRA tool suite to streamline their avionics certification compliance. Such widespread adoption of LDRA exists not only because of our superior tools, but also as a tribute to our extensive support and team of fully credentialed EASA and FAA certification experts who are available to assist with certification services.”

The LDRA tool suite offers a broad range of software test and verification capabilities geared to meet the most rigorous of avionics standards. As the only company able to provide object code verification, LDRA gives developers a direct way to relate code coverage of source code to object code and to prove code coverage at the assembler level, fulfilling one of the most time-consuming verification requirements for DO-178. The LDRA tool suite provides reports that identify where further analysis is needed and tool qualification support packs that guide developers through the certification process.

For UIMDB, the LDRA support team plays an equally valuable role. Zhelepov commented, “LDRA’s extensive support helped us find technical solutions quickly. Whether we were learning how to use the tool and its features to increase the amount of code tested, improve workflow quality, or adapt to a new hardware environment, LDRA specialists played an important role in helping us reach maximum productivity. We look forward to ongoing cooperation.”
