To ensure that individuals and families who earned $58,000 or less in 2013 can freely, easily, and securely prepare their Federal and State taxes, Goodwill of the Finger Lakes is once again offering online access to the My Free Taxes program.

Rochester, NY, January 16, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The start of the New Year is also the start of tax filing season. To ensure that individuals and families can freely, easily, and securely prepare their Federal and State taxes Goodwill of the Finger Lakes is once again offering online access to the My Free Taxes program.

By going online to GoodwillFingerLakes.com and clicking the free taxes image, individuals or families with Internet access and who had a combined adjusted gross income (AGI) of $58,000 or less in 2013 can use the free service to prepare and file their Federal and State tax returns electronically.

Goodwill is also offering referrals to assisted and in-person access to free tax preparation services for individuals and families who do not have Internet access through VITA locations throughout the region. To access this service, call 2-1-1 and a representative will connect qualified individuals with details on locations that are most convenient for them.

“Because Goodwill of the Finger Lakes promotes family and financial strengthening, we are excited to offer this online opportunity for the second straight year. Connecting individuals to a service that is free for both Federal and State tax filing not only saves on filing fees, but also empowers individuals to file independently and retain their entire refund,” Workforce Development Manager JoBeth Rath said.

While the number of free filing options available online is increasing, the service Goodwill is making available through GoodwillFingerLakes.com offers the highest threshold for free filing, in addition to offering free filing for both Federal and State returns.

“Often, the only returns that other online tax preparation tools offer for free are the Federal returns,” Rath said.
