New Model 4139 HP Fiber to RS232 Converter Supports Enhanced RS232 Data Transfer Rate

The Model 4139 was designed for installation in casino networks. It can connect HP Fiber linked terminals to a controller with an RS232 interface. This unit can be utilized in other applications as well.

Cranston, RI, January 16, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Electro Standards Laboratories, Cranston, RI, announces the Model 4139 HP fiber to RS232 converter. This converter is used to connect fiber optic linked terminals to a controller with an RS232 interface port. The Model 4139 provides electrical-to-optical and optical-to-electrical conversion.

There are advantages to conversion from RS232 to a fiber optic communication standard. Fiber transmission is not susceptible to electrostatic or electromagnetic fields. Additionally, the ports of the connected terminals are protected from damage by potential differences (ground variations) that often exist between them.

The Model 4139 RS232 connection is via a DB9 connector. The unit converts RS-232 serial communication interface to HP Versatile Link plastic core cable. This system provides full galvanic isolation (no metallic connection) between connected devices. The system supports full duplex connection between two devices with RS232 ports.

The Model 4139 allows interference-free fiber optical transfer of data to be utilized by the device with an RS232 interface. The data transfer rate is up to 120 Kbps which meets enhanced RS232 standards. The fiber connections are via two standard VersaLink connectors. The Model 4139 is factory configurable for use at the DCE or the DTE. The maximum link distance is greater than 500 meters (1640 feet) with 2.00mm Hard Clad Silicon fiber cable. A UL approved external wall-mount power supply that is 120 VAC, 60 Hz is shipped with each unit.

With the Model 4139, the fiber transmission distance is 75m (250 ft.) using TC 1000 W type plastic fiber cable. The RS232 transmission distance is greater than 15m (50 ft). The optical fiber connectors are HP/Agilent Versatile Link. The optical cable type is 1mm plastic optical film. The optical wavelength is 660 nm (red). The dimensions are 5.5” x 2.25” x 1.0” (139mm x 57mm x 25mm). The weight of the unit is 0.5 lbs (226 grams). The Model 4139 features a red LED status display.

Electro Standards Laboratories offers a version of this unit, Model 4137 that features RS232 connection via an RJ45 connector. Units can also be equipped with 2-Pin external wall-mount power supplies for European installations.

This small, lightweight unit is available for shipment worldwide.
