Group Six Films Options Film Rights for Sci-Fi Thriller Novel "Solstice"

Los Angeles, CA, January 16, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Group Six Films and science fiction author, Ulises Silva, are pleased to announce that Group Six Films has optioned the film rights to Silva's sci-fi thriller novel, Solstice.

In this gripping debut novel, we encounter a world where Scribes have the power to turn anything they write into reality, and where Editors work in the shadows to secretly police them. When one enigmatic Scribe decides to use this power to write humanity's extinction, it becomes a race against time as the Editors' best and most ruthless agent, Io, is sent to hunt down the rogue Scribe. We follow Io, a tough and troubled female protagonist, as she navigates the grimy, depraved streets of apocalyptic Detroit and Chicago to solve the mystery, even as society begins to collapse under a series of supernatural catastrophes.

Silva is a Chicago-based Latino author who first published Solstice in 2007 and is currently working on its sequel, Equinox. He is also working on a satire about Latinos in the film industry entitled Inventing Vazquez and is working to start up a film project in Chicago. His main influences for Solstice included Philip K. Dick, Stanley Kubrick, Asian horror cinema, and Japanese animation.

"Mr. Silva has crafted an extraordinary world driven by powerful, universal themes," says Douglas Conant, principal of Group Six Films. "It's mysterious, unpredictable, and populated with incredibly diverse, complex, and altogether human characters. Io is the best type of heroine, a survivor with the cunning of a samurai, but her deep emotional wounds threaten to tear her apart. This fresh, character-driven, and action-packed story will translate beautifully to screen. We’re so thrilled to add Solstice to our up-coming slate."

"I'm really excited about being able to work with Group Six Films and Douglas Conant on the film adaptation of Solstice," says Silva. "Mr. Conant's narrative style perfectly matches the style I envisioned when writing this book, and we share many of the same influences and inspirations for our respective work. I eagerly look forward to his cinematic interpretation of Solstice."
