Teen Author Returns to Hometown to Share His Keys to Success

Brett T. Brown, the author of "Haley's Comet" will return to Chicago for an interview with Radio Disney on January 24th.

Chicago, IL, January 17, 2014 --(PR.com)-- 16 year-old Author and native Chicagoan Brett T. Brown wrote and illustrated his first story at the age of 10. The early work paid off when he landed a publishing deal at 16 and saw his debut, "Haley’s Comet" (220 Publishing) released in 2013. The author and illustrator, currently living in Lakewood, OH will be back in Chicago January 24th as a guest on Radio Disney Chicago where he’ll talk about his journey to becoming a published author.

"Haley’s Comet" is a fantasy adventure with a touch of humor. It showcases Brown's unique and very advanced storytelling ability. Haley's Comet touches on many themes teens and pre-teens experience, including moving to a new neighborhood, relationships with parents and siblings and bullying. Since the book’s release, Brown has spoken at libraries books stores and book events in him current home as well as Chicago. He was a featured panelist at the bi annual Book Brunch event sponsored by his publisher.

In a recent interview Brown talked about the plot for "Haley's Comet," "I put Haley in situations that some people might find harsh, like when her mom is kidnapped by aliens. Some of the book of course is fictional, while some parts directly or partially relate to my life. It's almost like writing the biography of someone else, but you feel like you've lived part of their life.”

He credits his mother and his teachers for inspiring him to keep writing. “When I wrote my first short story, my mom took notice and always urged me to keep writing. Since middle school, I've had the support of my English teachers who have seen my work, and always encouraged me to keep writing.”

When speaking at Libraries, Book Stores and other events, Brett makes a point to encourage other kids; but his message touches everyone; “I know a lot of kids who are excellent at sports, writing, art, but lack confidence. Don't just blend into the background, spread the word. There are too many good young writers in the world that haven't been discovered. Do everything you can do to get your work out there. You’ll always have things to say and write about. Just keep working hard at it.”

Hayley’s Comet is Available wherever books are sold.
