Longtime SWACHA CEO Dennis Simmons to Retire at Year End

Dennis Simmons, CEO of SWACHA announced today he will retire from his position as of December 31, 2014, after 18 years with the association. Dallas-based SWACHA is one of the largest electronics payments associations in the country. Under his leadership, SWACHA has broadened its membership base to include approximately 1,000 financial institutions throughout Texas, Louisiana, and New Mexico. As part of the leadership transition, Laura Steele has taken on the title of President and COO.

Laura Steele Promoted to President as Part of Planned Transition

Dennis Simmons, CEO of SWACHA announced today he will retire from his position as of December 31, 2014, after 18 years with the association. Dallas-based SWACHA is one of the largest electronics payments associations in the country.

Simmons, 65, joined SWACHA in 1996 as Director of Training and Education. He was promoted to President and CEO in 2001. Under his leadership, SWACHA has broadened its membership base to include approximately 1,000 financial institutions throughout Texas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Georgia and several other states.

“On behalf of all SWACHA members, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to Dennis for his dedication and diligence during the last 18 years, which has helped transform SWACHA into the industry-leading position it holds today,” said Charlie Schuchardt, Executive Vice President, Frost Bank San Antonio and current Chair of the SWACHA Board of Directors. “His innovative leadership has been an asset to SWACHA and to the electronic payments industry as a whole. His imprint on our business will be visible for years to come.”

As part of the leadership transition, Laura Steele has taken on the title of President and COO. Steele, 52, was previously Executive Vice President and COO of the organization. She joined SWACHA in 2013 and is a veteran of the financial services industry with more than 20 years of experience.

“It is definitely with mixed emotions that I announce my retirement,” said Simmons. “However, I take with me great pride in all SWACHA has achieved over the years. SWACHA is well-positioned for the future under Laura’s and her team’s leadership. I know I am leaving things in good hands.”
