)-- HT Media LLC and its Octave Match Entertainment division announced today the launching of Music Placement Pro, a new music publishing service primarily servicing independent artists and songwriters. The scheduled launch date is set for April 21, 2014.
"This has been a project years in the making," stated Christopher Houp, president of HT Media LLC, "and will offer independent songwriters the ability to showcase their music for potential placement in television, film, and video games unlike any other publisher."
According to the company, Music Placement Pro is an online database where songwriters upload their works to be appropriately categorized, where music supervisors can then query the system for matches and license the work instantly.
According to the company, Music Placement Pro will charge a small annual fee for songwriters to list their works.
"We haven't reinvented the wheel, we've just improved upon it," said Mr. Houp. "Other publishers keep as much as 65% of a writer's licensing fee, and as much as 50% of any performance royalties. Music Placement Pro gives 100% of the licensing fee to the artist and never takes a penny for performance royalties."
The company will also have a fee structure for music supervisors and others who use the service to license music through a surcharge on each license purchased. Access to the database will be free for authorized users however. A company spokesman stated licensing fees had yet to be finalized, but would be highly competitive with other publishers and aggregators regardless of the surcharge.
