Career Step Partners with California State University, Fresno to Offer Medical Coding and Billing Education

Career Step has partnered with California State University, Fresno to offer its online Professional Medical Coding and Billing through the Fresno State, Continuing and Global Education department.

Provo, UT, February 19, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Career Step, an online provider of career-focused education and corporate training, has partnered with California State University, Fresno to offer its online Professional Medical Coding and Billing to Fresno State’s students. This partnership allows Fresno State students to take the Career Step program through the Fresno State, Continuing and Global Education department.

“Part of Fresno State’s mission is to prioritize student success and advance our established distinction in professional programs and community engagement,” said Scott Moore, Dean of the Division of Continuing and Global Education at Fresno State. “This online program provides vocational enhancement at a fraction of the cost of similar programs in California’s Central Valley.”

The medical coding and billing industry is already understaffed with an estimated 30 percent shortage of qualified professionals nationwide. In October, the industry will also be switching to the ICD-10 code set, which is expected to increase the shortage to over 50 percent. Certificate programs like the one now offered through Fresno State and Career Step prepare students to quickly enter this field by training them for entry-level credentials and positions in about a year.

The Professional Medical Coding and Billing certificate program is one of the only online programs approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), the largest industry association for medical coders. The program is specifically designed to prepare students to sit for the Certified Coding Associate (CCA) and Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credentialing exams, and the online format allows students to study on the schedule and pace that works for them.

“There is such an incredible need for medical coders nationwide,” said Career Step Vice President of Academic Partnerships, Ryan Ewer. “This partnership with Fresno State is very exciting because it makes it so much easier for students in the Fresno area to find affordable, trusted medical coding training. This partnership is great for us here at Career Step as well as Fresno State, but really what it comes down to and what we’re really excited about is the life-changing opportunity it represents for individuals in the community.”
