Nallatech Demonstrates FPGA-Accelerated Suricata Network Security Monitoring Engine at RSA Conference 2014

Nallatech, a leading supplier of high-performance FPGA solutions, today announced it will demonstrate hardware acceleration of the open-source Suricata network Intrusion Detection System (IDS) engine running on Nallatech’s 385 accelerator platform. Visitors to the RSA Conference, February 24-28, in San Francisco, Calif., can see the demonstration at booth #2339.

San Francisco, CA, February 26, 2014 --(PR.com)-- FPGA Platform Featuring Altera Stratix V FPGAs Address Latency-Critical and
Co-Processing Requirements of Network Security Applications

RSA Conference – Nallatech, a leading supplier of high-performance FPGA solutions, today announced it will demonstrate hardware acceleration of the open-source Suricata network Intrusion Detection System (IDS) engine running on Nallatech’s 385 accelerator platform. Visitors to the RSA Conference, February 24-28, in San Francisco, Calif., can see the demonstration at booth #2339. The Nallatech 385 accelerator card, featuring Altera Stratix® V FPGAs, addresses latency-critical and co-processing requirements of network security applications.

Today’s enterprise cyber security teams aim to immediately thwart attacks and intrusions to protect valuable corporate assets without impacting normal traffic. If an enterprise doesn’t have the right Intrusion Detection and Prevention System (IDPS) technology in place to deal with such threats, it can pay the price in costly data breaches. With Nallatech’s FPGA-accelerated cards and Altera’s SDK for OpenCL™, users can implement threat detection engines like Suricata for efficient monitoring and combating today’s security threats.

“Nallatech and Altera have a successful track record of providing solutions that support business-critical systems,” said Ian Land, senior manager of Military, Aerospace and Government product line at Altera. “Since cyber security is a top priority for public and private organizations, we are pleased to demonstrate our power-efficient OpenCL version of the Suricata engine processing high-bandwidth data streams on Nallatech’s hardware.”

“The need for security at each compute node is significantly impacting the performance of today’s servers,” said Allan Cantle, president and founder of Nallatech. “With the programmability of OpenCL, plus the directly attached network channels on Nallatech’s FPGA accelerators, users can quickly port software applications such as Suricata to an Altera FPGA for reduced latency and improved performance.”

Nallatech’s 385 and 395 FPGA accelerator platforms allow customers to combine the OpenCL programming model with massively parallel FPGA architectures. This combination enables dramatic acceleration of compute-intensive applications while reducing power consumption and total cost of ownership. Nallatech’s accelerator cards are also qualified by leading vendors’ high density server and blade platforms and are ready for deployment with pre-integrated software and IP.
