Senszio Expands Its Bespoke Tailoring Services to New York

A specialist bespoke tailor announced its expansion into the US market.

Senszio estimates that interest in bespoke tailoring services in America has grown significantly since late 2008, and that New York and California are two of the faster growing markets for luxury bespoke tailored suits in the United States.

Two major influences on the growth in demand for bespoke suits have been the trend for famous men and male celebrities to dress in bespoke tailored suits and television programs that feature dapperly dressed gentlemen, such as the show, Mad Men.

Before bringing Senszio’s services to New York, the Hong Kong-based traveling bespoke specialist conducted market research for its handmade tailoring services in early 2014. “Even in our main markets in Europe, tastes in suit fabrics, colors and cut differ across cities. Customers in London prefer classic styles while gentlemen in Stockholm prefer trendy styles for example. We tested the New York market to first understand what our customer preferences would be, in order to line up the right fabric mills and styling options in time for the launch of our services in the American market,” said Mark V. Unlike tailors that recruit sales men on a large scale or that have adopted technology solutions that allow customers to take their own measurements, Senszio’s focus is to train a select group of about 10 tailors with skills in pattern-making, cutting, and stitching, before they travel to meet with customers. This company uses this strategy to ensure that it maintains tight control over quality and professional levels of very personalized bespoke advice. So we help bring everything together for them. We advise them on the styling and color options that best suit their form and bring along the latest fabric choices right to their office or home,” said Motwani. “We have had inquiries from American customers who had heard about our traveling bespoke services for a few years now, including European customers who moved to America and told us that they had been looking for good tailors in New York without success. But in line with our strategy, we chose to first invest in training more bespoke specialists who would meet our exacting standards to serve the US market, before expanding.”
