William Peace University Names Justin Johnson Assistant Professor of Simulation and Game Design

Local Four-Year Baccalaureate Hires Professional Game Designer to Teach SGD Courses

Raleigh, NC, April 23, 2014 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, is proud to announce the hiring of Justin Johnson as Assistant Professor of Simulation and Game Design (SGD). Johnson, who was hired as an Adjunct Professor at WPU in the fall of 2013, will be responsible for teaching the core classes of SGD, developing its curriculum, and keeping course and lab technology current with industry standards.

Prior to arriving at WPU, Johnson worked at Ubisoft Red Storm, a video game manufacturing company based in Cary that is known for designing PC and console games such as Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed and Tom Clancy’s popular series Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon. Johnson has also worked as a level designer and lead artist for massively multiplayer online role-playing games (MMORPG), and for a startup company that designed field-training simulations for firefighters. In 2008, he made the transition to higher education and taught courses at Wake Technical Community College.

Johnson earned a B.A. in Game Art and Design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, and a M.S. in Game Production and Management from the University of Advancing Technology. He has won several game art contests hosted by websites such as 3DTotal and GameArtisans, and has served as a speaker at the East Coast Game Conference.

“I am very excited to be a part of the new Simulation and Game Design program at WPU,” Johnson said. “WPU is a great place for students to learn and gain experience in an exciting field. We have a unique approach that will provide the Triangle and gaming industry with the best game developers.”

“We are very happy to welcome Justin aboard,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., president of William Peace University. “He is experienced in the gaming industry and is sure to make an impact on our students and the SGD program.”

Johnson resides in Durham with his wife and one-and-a-half-year-old son.
