“A cartoonist, animator, painter, three-dimensional installation artist . . . , he brings a wry humor and a subtle intelligence to his work, whose sometimes whimsical, sometimes faux-folk art appeal is a whole lot less naive that it might seem at first glance.” -Peter Clothier, The Buddha Diaries

A native Angeleno, Stuart Rapeport became an artist amidst the social turmoil of the early 1970’s. Traditionally trained as a fine art printmaker at Cal State University Northridge, he has worked in a variety of media with the consistent thru-line of skewering the establishment and considering everything in its place. For Stuart, context, both in terms of formal convention and artistic execution is tantamount. The medium is the message, and vice-versa.

itmarksthespot is pleased to present a suite of recent intaglio prints whose inky images have been incised into thick cotton paper by environmental detritus gathered around Stuart’s LA neighborhood whilst on walks with his dogs. We also welcome the DogHeadShop on its inaugural East Coast visit. These are unique small-format, reclaimed wood sculptures, which redefine the notion of an “edition,” which hope to find good homes amongst clever art lovers.
