MetalTech-USA Clad New Legacy ER & Urgent Care in Allen, Texas

Peachtree City, GA, May 02, 2014 --(PR.com)-- "Visiting the emergency room is likely a stressful and unpleasant experience for most people; however, residents of Allen, Texas can rest assured with the opening of the newly constructed Legacy ER and Urgent Care. The progressive architectural design of this medical facility marries the elements of 'sustainable and evidence-based design to offer a soothing environment for patients seeking care under distressed conditions," according to 5G. This 8,432 square foot facility, the second designed by 5G Studio Collaborative of Dallas, Texas, features 3 emergency department exam rooms, two trauma rooms, five urgent care exam rooms, and an on-site laboratory and radiology suite complete with CT scan.

The utilization of zinc in certain elements of the design was discussed in 2009 when 5G designed the first Legacy ER & Urgent Care. "The properties embodied in zinc are reflective of the institutional priorities of Legacy ER," cites designer Paul Merrill of 5G. "Based on the inherent properties of the material--resilience, self-healing, and luminance, zinc was a natural choice for the second location."

MetalTech-USA was chosen to fabricate the zinc panels in the exterior design. The second Legacy ER design concept features an origami style roof with perforated Rheinzink prePatina Blue Gray Zinc Reveal panels cladding the roof and soffits and Rheinzink prePatina Blue Gray Zinc Standing Seam panels for the facade. The perforated panels played an integral role in executing the architect's vision accurately. The perforation was intended to provide exterior views from within the building as well as a method of peripheral lighting for the architecture. "Varying perforation patterns were carefully chosen and mapped onto each panel to achieve a gradient reading that adds to the perceptual depth of the building geometry," states Merrill. Custom perforation patterns had to be coordinated with different panel types and sizes. This created a challenge for MetalTech-USA Project Manager Michael Love as there were five different perforation patterns and two different panel types. "A great deal of programming and design was necessary to get these panels properly fabricated, but the end result was worth all of the hard work by our entire team," notes PM Michael Love.

Innovative design, in conjunction with MetalTech-USA's sustainable Eco Choice™ material will likely make the new Legacy ER and Urgent Care a landmark in Allen, Texas for years to come.
