One Man's Blindness Has Given Him a Vision

Colorado Man joins with University of Colorado Hospital to fight for a cure for Optic Nerve Disease and provide support for people with optic nerve related vision loss.

Highlands Ranch, CO, May 15, 2014 --(PR.com)-- A man suffering from a rare optic nerve disorder has decided to change the look of the future.

Shay Edmonds is a 43 year old father of two that has suffered from vision loss since 2005. After losing his vision completely twice and having extreme medical treatments used to help the optic nerve regain some of the lost vision, he continues to have severe vision loss that impacts his life daily.

When modern research went stale and little progress was being reported, Shay decided to take the future into his own hands and started a charity named Accel2See to accelerate the current research duration and bring awareness to visual loss and blindness.

Accel2See is a non-profit organization that will bring positive change to people with low-vision and blindness caused by Optic Nerve Disease. Optic Nerve Disease includes Optic Neuritis, Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, Glaucoma, Macular Degeneration and several other causes for optic nerve damage. We will accelerate research in finding a cure for optic nerve damage as well as improve the daily lives of people with low-vision with assistance for adaptive equipment to improve vision. We will also increase awareness of various optic nerve diseases in the community.

Accel2See has teamed up with the University of Colorado Hospital and Research Center to accomplish these goals. Accel2See is working with researchers at the University of Colorado, Department of Ophthalmology, as well as the Rocky Mountain Lyons Eye Institute to provide a direct stream to both science and patient care.

Accel2See is kicking off its fundraising efforts May 17th, 2014, 4:00pm-9:00pm. The event will be held at Landsdowne Arms Bistro and Pub, 9352 Dorchester St, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129, (303) 346-9136. Appetizers will be provided. The first 50 guests get their first drink free! There will be a silent auction, wine wall, T-Shirt sales, live band and plenty of sunshine to go around. Guests will also be able to donate live online. Visit www.Accel2See.org to find out more.

Shay Edmonds, President, and Tara Cox, executive director will be live tomorrow, Thursday, May 15th, 2014 at 9:00am on 630am KHOW with Mandy Connell.
