Gates Carbon Drive Expands in UK with New Distribution Partnership with Velorution

Gates Corporation’s Carbon Drive business unit increases its UK presence, releases a new IGH instructional video, launches a new Carbon Drive Owner’s Manual, expands its product line, and signs with a new distributor in Spain.

Denver, CO, May 24, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Gates Carbon Drive, the leading belt drive system for bicycles and eBikes, has partnered with urban bike specialists Velorution to oversee distribution and service of Gates Carbon Drive in the United Kingdom. Velorution, based in London, will lead the charge to grow the UK market and increase consumer awareness of the clean, quiet, and low-maintenance benefits of the Gates belt drive.

“Velorution are the perfect partner for Gates because they are urban cycling experts and have worked with belt drive bike brands including Schindelhauer and Van Nicholas for many years,” said Chris Harris, sales manager for Gates in the UK. “With Velorution on our team we expect that many more British consumers will discover how the grease-free Gates belt drive simplifies cycling.”

Velorution (www.velorution.com) specializes in urban cycling and offers a large selection of transportation bikes and components. “My team at Velorution are experts in the latest bike technologies, which makes this a great partnership,” said Gretta Cole, co-owner of Velorution. “Bikes with the Gates Carbon Drive System are clean, quiet, and reliable, and they require less maintenance than bikes with chains, making them ideal for our weather and a favorite with our clientele.”

To educate mechanics and consumers, Gates Carbon Drive has just released a new instructional video that details how to change a rear wheel on bikes with internally geared hubs (IGH). Pairing the Gates belt drive with an IGH is increasingly common on urban bikes because it provides a low-maintenance solution for commuters. The video provides information on rear wheel removal for Gates-equipped bikes with Shimano Alfine 8- and 11-speed hubs, Shimano Nexus 7 and the NuVinci N360 continuously variable planetary hub.

The video follows the recent online release of the Gates Carbon Drive Owner’s Manual, which provides essential tips on how to properly handle and maintain the Carbon Drive belt. In addition, Gates continues to expand its product range with a new 70-tooth sprocket for track bikes, as well as new 108-tooth, 111-tooth, and 125-tooth belt lengths.

In Spain, Gates has signed a deal with BikeZeNter (www.bikezenter.com) to be that country’s official distributor of Carbon Drive. BikeZeNter specializes in drivetrain technologies and is the Spanish distributor for belt drive bike brand Nicolai, and for the Pinion gearbox, which pairs well with Gates Carbon Drive. “Gates Carbon Drive is a perfect solution for bicyclists who want a durable and efficient alternative to chains,” said Xabier Gutierrez, founder of BikeZeNter.

“Our goal is to partner with top distributors in our many global markets to ensure consumers and bike brands in-country can correspond with the most knowledgeable local experts,” says Todd Sellden, global director of Gates Carbon Drive. “We are very pleased to have Velorution and BikeZeNter as part of our team.”
