Surgical Science Launches Industry’s First Simulated Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) Lobectomy

Gothenburg, Sweden, June 14, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Surgical Science announced today the launch of the industry’s first Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) Lobectomy virtual reality simulation, available exclusively for the LapSim laparoscopic simulator.

Using LapSim’s industry leading hardware, cutting edge graphics and powerful metrics, the new VATS lobectomy procedural module (http://www.surgical-science.com/portfolio/vats-lobectomy/) provides trainees simulated practice performing each of the key steps involved in removing the upper right lung lobe, including the dissection of hilum/vessels and vessel identification; sequential stapling of veins, arteries and bronchus and fissure; usage of an elastic vessel rubber loop to present structures to stapler; and bleeding control.

“Our development of this state-of-the-art VATS simulation software represents our foundational commitment to advancing tools for safe, effective and efficient surgical training,” said Hans Uddenberg, global product manager for LapSim. “As simulated surgical education continues to gain widespread adoption, we believe our continued innovations, like VATS, will help contribute to safer surgeons and improved patient outcomes.”

The VATS module is now available to LapSim customers. Learn more about accessing the new software by contacting Surgical Science at info@surgical-science.com.
