Machete Media Productions Next Project, a Documentary "Nyack Needs A Skatepark" Announced

While producing “Nyack Needs A Skatepark” documentary, Machete Media Productions will intermittently release short videos promoting local skateboarders.

Nyack, NY, June 19, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Machete Media Productions director and producer Bridget Machete has announced her next directorial effort, a short documentary about an outdoor skate park being built in Nyack, NY. Project “Nyack Needs A Skatepark” is a documentary that explores the exertions of Sarah Anderson, the founder of the park’s grassroots movement “Nyack Needs A Skatepark” to uncover the ways and possibilities for park becoming a reality for the Nyack skaterboarding community. Filmmaker, Bridget Machete will follow Sarah through her research, fundraising events and meetings with the chamber of commerce, mayor, builders and residents of Nyack. “Sarah’s optimistic energy, perseverance, and determination to go that extra mile to reach the goal is what inspired me to produce this documentary,” said Bridget Machete. “I used to skateboard from when I was about eight to my late teens (every now and then I pick up my board and skate) and I know how difficult it is to skateboard outside of your driveway- the theme really spoke to me.”

The Nyack community has been supporting the idea of a public, outdoor skating area since the 1970s but it wasn’t until September 2010, that group of over a hundred Nyack skateboarders and their enthusiasts shaped an organization called "Nyack Needs a Skatepark." Finally, after a two-year struggle in March 2013 the Nyack Village trustees voted unanimously approving almost 5,000 square feet of Nyack’s Memorial Park on the banks of the Hudson River for the construction of a concrete skate plaza. At this time the project is in the planning stage, and the Village of Nyack has contracted a well-known Action Sports Design (ASD) company to turn up a design that will be attractive to skaters and visually proper to its setting in Memorial Park.

The buzz surrounding “Nyack Needs A Skatepark” caught Bridget Machete’s attention back in 2010, but the legendary horror punk band the Misfits’ benefit concert played in Nyack Center on May 31st for this very reason, closed the deal for her. “Misfits entertain their audience and capture their hearts,” said Bridget Machete, who’s been a fan of the band for years. “When I saw the Misfits were coming out to help raise money for the building of skatepark I thought this was something worth looking into, if such a recognized band is coming out to help out the local kids find a spot to skate.” Lead singer Jerry Only is an avid supporter of the project and expressed his eagerness to help the Nyack skateboarding community in his exclusive interview filmed by Machete Media Productions and to be featured in “Nyack Needs A Skatepark” documentary. All the profits from the event were donated to support construction of a skate park in Nyack’s Memorial Park.

This will be an ongoing project and Machete Media Productions will release a few short videos a year that will promote local skaters and will conclude its production with a finished project when the skatepark is up and running-next spring.
