Red Carpet Awards Show for Down Syndrome Self-Advocates

A Red Carpet Platform Like No Other to Honor Self-Advocates with Down Syndrome

Atlanta, GA, July 11, 2014 --(PR.com)-- A red carpet event will soon take place to honor 9 self-advocates with Down syndrome. The general public has already selected these honorees through a national social media campaign back in March 2014, but the official celebration will take place on Friday, November 7th. This black tie event will celebrate their lives and achievements during the first red carpet event for the RISE Awards (Rising in Spirit and Expectations).

“As a mom, I’m devoted to using my voice through various projects such as the ‘2014 RISE Awards’. Too often, I and many parents of children with Down syndrome are told about our children’s limitations and things our children are incapable of, but there’s so much more. My mission is to capture the essence of individuals with Down syndrome and shine a positive light by telling the stories of and honoring advocates with Down syndrome. This night is all about recognizing these amazing musicians, painters and advocates who are making a difference. The stories that are often not seen or heard,” points out Yvonne Pierre, CEO of Y Pierre Productions, and mother of two sons, one who happens to have Down syndrome.

The night promises to be filled with live entertainment and special presentations for three (3) honorees and (6) award recipients with Down syndrome. Hosted by Justin Mise, the event will feature live performances by one of our honorees and self advocates, Sujeet Desai and other world renowned performers: Leaf, Viva Brazil and The God Sent Project.

In spite of the progress made since 40 years ago when it was a common practice to institutionalize persons with Down syndrome, limitations still seem to overshadow achievements. Attendees will leave the RISE Awards feeling enlightened, uplifted and thinking about the possibilities.
