William Peace University Names Amy White Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Theatre

Four-Year Baccalaureate Welcomes Former Actress and Off-Broadway Professional with 10 Years Industry Experience

Raleigh, NC, August 13, 2014 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University (http://www.peace.edu), a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, is proud to announce the hiring of Amy White as Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Theatre. In her new roles, White will teach Musical Theatre and Theatre classes, particularly in the realms of acting and dance. Additionally, she is providing private voice and piano lessons, and directing this year’s upcoming student performance The Importance of Being Earnest.

Prior to WPU, White worked in the theatre industry for a decade, having worked as a professional actress based in New York City, off-Broadway, and on touring companies playing such roles as Sharpay in High School Musical, Bianca in Taming of the Shrew, and the title role in Cinderella. Off stage, she has acted as a director, voice coach and choreographer for numerous productions across the East Coast. In 2010, White helped found an ensemble-based theatre company in NYC called the madCAP collective. She has also dedicated many summers directing and choreographing for the Apollo Civic Theatre’s Youth Summer Workshop.

White holds a BFA in Musical Theatre with a minor in Dance from the State University of New York at Fredonia, along with a MFA in Performing Arts from the Savannah College of Art and Design.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Theatre faculty at William Peace University,” White said. “There truly seems to be a deep respect for developed artistry, hard work, and creativity among the students, faculty and staff. I believe WPU has great potential to create a symbiotic relationship with Raleigh community through the arts and I look forward to helping cultivate this collaboration. It is a great honor and joy to be a part of this rapidly growing program.”

“We are ecstatic to welcome Amy to WPU,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., President of William Peace University. “She brings a great deal of knowledge and industry experience to our institution, and will surely have an impact on students in the BFA Program.”

“I’m really happy that the University is bringing in someone who has real-world and industry experience,” said Luis Beltran, William Peace University ’16. “I can’t wait to pick her [Ms. White’s] brain about acting in New York City and things like that.”

About William Peace University:

William Peace University is located in the heart of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded in 1857 as Peace Institute, offering education for boys and girls in primary grades and to women from high school to college. Peace, an all-women's college, became a four-year baccalaureate college and graduated its first bachelor's students in August of 1996. Exclusively an all-women's institution for its first 152 years, Peace began offering coeducational evening courses through the William Peace School of Professional Studies in 2009. In 2011, Peace College transitioned to William Peace University and welcomed its first coeducational class to its day program in fall 2012. Its mission is to prepare students for careers in the organizations of tomorrow. On average, more than 90 percent of the university's graduates are placed in jobs or graduate school within one year of graduation. In fact, the University is ranked No. 1 in the nation among colleges with the highest rate of internships, according to a 2013 study conducted by U.S. News & World Report.
