Fort Lauderdale, FL, October 25, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr., Congressional Candidate for District 23 in Florida, salutes the heroic and determined aviation accomplishments of Mr. Barrington Irving. At age 23, Barrington Irving is the first African descendant and youngest aviator ever to fly solo around the world. "Barrington Irving exemplifies and exudes the very essence of the American Dream. Plain and simple, this outstanding young man would not accept 'No' as an answer once he decided to pursue his around the world flight," proclaims Dr. Thorpe. Though Mr. Irving was unable to find an aircraft manufacturer willing to donate, lease, or lend an aircraft for his journey, he went to manufacturers of the individual components such as Teledyne Continental Motors, Avidyne, Kelly Aerospace, Precise Flight, S-TEC, Oregon Aero, Goodyear, and Seamech and obtained the necessary equipment to build his Columbia 400 aircraft.

"Very fittingly, Barrington named his plane 'Inspiration'," states Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr. When asked about the name selection of his aircraft, Barrington Irving explains "I named the plane “Inspiration” because that’s what I want my historic venture to be for young people who are looking for a purpose in life beyond the streets of the inner city. More than setting world records, my mission is to reach those youth. I want them to see that neither a lack of money nor their young age can keep them from attempting what may at first seem impossible." Mr. Irving brings his positive message to the people of Congressional District 23 on October 27, 2007.

Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr. outlines the festive schedule to celebrate Mr. Irving's record breaking flight as follows: Beginning at 9:30 am on October 27th, there will be a bridge dedication in Lauderdale Lakes, followed by a motorcade route beginning at Park Lakes elementary School at 10:00 am and ending at 2550 NW Sistrunk Boulevard at 10:35 am, with a culminating 11:00 am Community salute to Barrington at the Reverend Samuel Delevoe Park. Dr. Thorpe invites you to contact him for further details.

"As he takes his message of self-reliance and undeterred achievement to the youth of Congressional District 23, Mr. Barrington Irving continues to make me proud well beyond his expertise in the cockpit. He is an excellent example of leadership and ingenuity," states Dr. Marion D. Thorpe, Jr. For collective reasons, Dr. Thorpe proudly acknowledges Barrington Irving as an inaugural choice for 'Thorpe '08 Hometown Heroes' membership.
