Saratoga Springs, NY, August 14, 2014 --(PR.com
)-- Delaware North Companies, Parks & Resorts, at Gideon Putnam Resort & Spa in Saratoga Springs, NY was recently re-designated a Silver Certified Green Lodging Property by environmental nonprofit Audubon International.
The hotel first achieved certification in 2009 with a silver rating. Through efforts led by Joel Echevarria, Maintenance Manager, and Heather Coton, Executive Assistant, the hotel recently completed the process to achieve re-certification. The Gideon Putnam’s environmental highlights include zero-sort recycling, energy efficient lighting, a towel and linen reuse program, use of on-site garden and local foods in Putnam’s restaurant, participation in Clean the World, and annual Earth Day events.
“We are committed to responsible stewardship,” said General Manager, Robert Berrey. "Our environmental practices are guided by Delaware North’s GreenPath® program, an ISO 14001, internationally registered environmental management system. We are proud to receive a Silver Certification from Audubon International, whose areas of focus are right in-line with our current practices.”
Gideon Putnam Resort & Spa is one of 64 Audubon International Certified Green Lodging Properties, and it is one of 30 properties to hold the Silver Certification rating. Certified properties are rated in the categories of Communication and Education; Waste Reduction, Reuse, and Recycling; Water Conservation, Energy Efficiency, and Indoor Air Quality. To earn certification, all properties receive a site visit by an Audubon International staff member and undergo a recertification process every three years.
“The Gideon Putnam is an integral part of the Saratoga Springs community, and they are doing their part to improve their environmental impact and serve as a model for environmental stewardship,” said Katie Hopkins, Associate Director of Outreach & Communications at Audubon International.
