Limited Edition Carpets by Kosta Boda

In partnership with CarpetVista, Europe’s market leader in carpets, Kosta Boda has come forth with a series of limited carpets designed by Sweden’s most renowned glass designers.

Malmö, Sweden, September 06, 2014 --(PR.com)-- For the first time in Kosta Boda’s over a century long history, they are releasing a series of products that are not made of glass. However, it is still handmade art that has been designed by Kosta Boda’s designers.

In partnership with CarpetVista, Europe’s market leader in carpets, Kosta Boda has come forth with a series of limited carpets designed by Sweden’s most renowned glass designers.

”It has been a challenge for the designers to work with a new material, but they have really created fantastic carpets that will be a natural continuation of their limited collections of glass,” says Magnus Andersson, CEO at Kosta Boda.

”It has been incredibly inspiring to work with the designers to convert their ideas and sketches into finished carpets and find ways around the restrictions in the production process. The end result is something completely unique when it comes to carpet design,” says Ludvig Friberger, Managing Director at CarpetVista.

”Internally at Kosta Boda, we have discussed the possibility of expanding our brand to other product groups within home design for years. Carpets feel like a natural first step on this path. There are many commonalities with our current product range, first and foremost that these carpets are made by hand and are driven by design. After we presented the concept to our designers, they were really taken by the idea, excited to get started and together we decided to focus our attention to carpets,” says Magnus Andersson, CEO at Kosta Boda.

”To go from glass to carpets is a great challenge – same thoughts and ideas, but completely new materials and a whole new world of possibilities to explore. Ovalen’s tranquil strength and the tone of the colors have moved from the glass over to the soft and sensual feel of the carpet under my feet,” says Martti Rytkonen, Designer

”To have the opportunity to design carpets has been a fantastic experience! To transfer your own design language from glass to an exclusive carpet has been a very exciting process. That two materials, which are so different, can still speak the same 'language' and fit so well together is so much fun to see!” says Anna Ehrner, Designer

”When the question came up about making art carpets I thought: What fun! I can pull up my small sketches to larger formats and from there transfer them onto carpets. It was a great challenge and exciting,” says Kjell Engman, Designer.

”It immediately felt like an exciting and fun assignment to design a carpet for Kosta Boda in partnership with CarpetVista. It is so inspiring to get access to a new material and work in a new process. The common denominator of my work as a glass designer is the freedom to express my own design world and that the carpets are made with high quality and great care. I have continued working on my glass ideas and found new ways to give them shape and color. My carpet has a close affinity to my glass art, but at the same time is independent and its own.”

The carpets are produced in limited editions in India and are knotted by hand using only the highest qualities of wool and the patterns are reinforced with silk to accentuated the details. They will be sold through a select number of furniture and glass dealers and are currently already available on CarpetVista.com and Kostaboda-artgallery.com.
