Videon Central Announces a New Decoder Module for Global AV Applications

Videon's new decoder module combines their hardware technology and Avia software with the Intel® Atom™ Processor CE5300 to create a high performance decoder for AV workflows.

State College, PA, September 10, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Videon is proud to announce a new semi-custom decoder module to be released during this year’s International Broadcasting Convention (IBC), scheduled for September 11-15 in Amsterdam. The module highlights Videon’s software and hardware technology along with Intel’s high quality media processor to create a product that will support infocomm and broadcast workflows, as well as automotive and aviation applications.

The module uses Videon’s Avia AV Framework. Avia is a software solution that interfaces to numerous SoC processors to move media between a wide variety of source and destination devices. With Avia, the powerful Intel® Atom™ Processor CE5300 can be incorporated into any AV workflow, accommodating baseband and compressed video, IP and other connections.

The CE5300 is a dual-core media processor with high performance graphics. Its 32nm process technology allows for lower power at higher frequencies and provides general purpose processing for AV applications. Additional features include:

Dual Intel® Atom™ core with Hyper-Threading and Virtualization Technology
Enhanced 3D Gfx GPU & dedicated 2D graphics accelerator
eMMC 4.4 NAND Flash Interface
Dual MPEG2/H.264 HD video decode
H.264 HD video encoder with B-Picture capability
Expansion: 2xPCIe, 2xSATA/eSATA, 3xUSB, 1xRGMII, up to 4 Transport Stream inputs

The module decodes MPEG2/H.264 video data, making it ideal to add compressed video to broadcast and infocomm applications. Moreover, since the Intel chip allows such a small form factor and low power consumption, the modules can be used in a wide variety of equipment types.

Videon VP Scott Kovesdy explains, “This module will give our customers a cost-competitive decoder solution with the latest technologies, like IP streaming and H.264 video playback. We’re very pleased to have Intel technology in a Videon product. Together, the CE5300 and Avia AV Framework make for a highly-capable, highly-customizable device.”

Pre-orders will be taken at http://store.videon-central.com/ during IBC.
