Four-Year Baccalaureate Hires Academic Professional in New Advising Management Role

Raleigh, NC, September 12, 2014 --(PR.com)-- William Peace University, (http://www.peace.edu/) a private four-year university located in downtown Raleigh, is proud to announce Julie B. Fleming as Director of Advising Services. Fleming, who has been an academic advisor and is in her third academic year at the University, will oversee the academic advising program for all WPU students and help ensure quality support and assistance to students across the areas of registration, degree audits, transcript review, graduation certification, articulation agreements, and assessment.

Prior to joining William Peace University, Fleming worked in several areas of student services at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and in undergraduate academic advising at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received the Mickel-Shaw Excellence in Advising Award. Fleming also served as the associate director of admissions for Saint Mary’s School in Raleigh. She holds both a B.A. in psychology and Italian and a MSW from the University of Michigan.

“We are proud that Julie has stepped into this new role at the University,” said Debra M. Townsley, Ph.D., President of William Peace University. “The transition has been seamless given her years of experience in advising and counseling, and the fact that she already personally knows our students. I think this is great for her and the institution.”

“I believe that academic advising is a critical component of a student’s college experience,” Fleming said. “I have been a member of the Peace community since 2012 and I am thrilled to now have the opportunity to further support the students here at William Peace University.”

“I’m glad the University is bringing in people who are experienced and dedicated to what they do,” said Aron Crumb ’17. “Mrs. Fleming has been on campus for a while and I already know who she is. I think this is great.”

Fleming resides in Raleigh with her husband and three children.

About William Peace University:

William Peace University is located in the heart of downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. It was founded in 1857 as Peace Institute, offering education for boys and girls in primary grades and to women from high school to college. Peace, an all-women's college, became a four-year baccalaureate college and graduated its first bachelor's students in August of 1996. Exclusively an all-women's institution for its first 152 years, Peace began offering coeducational evening courses through the William Peace School of Professional Studies in 2009. In 2011, Peace College transitioned to William Peace University and welcomed its first coeducational class to its day program in fall 2012. Its mission is to prepare students for careers in the organizations of tomorrow. On average, more than 90 percent of the university's graduates are placed in jobs or graduate school within one year of graduation. In fact, the University is ranked No. 1 in the nation among colleges with the highest rate of internships, according to a 2013 study conducted by U.S. News & World Report.
