Maffa Rico Explores Demons in Paradise with Debut Album, The Pink Hotel

Madison, WI, September 25, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Titled The Pink Hotel, modern rock trio Maffa Rico released its debut full-length album today, commemorating the group's two-year anniversary of performing its signature style of fusion music throughout the Midwest.

A concept album, The Pink Hotel exposes inevitable evils in life and abstractly details a dystopia-ridden paradise. Singer and lead guitarist Bradley Giroux says the direction of the album was inspired by a vivid dream he experienced and an eye-opening vacation on which bassist Patrick Berthiaume embarked.

"While I first envisioned this 'Pink Hotel' as a beautiful, surreal place, I began discovering its subtle yet overwhelming sense of darkness," said Giroux. "After sharing this dream with Pat, he told me about an international trip he took, where he saw the dangers in a so-called paradise. Then we applied it to people and saw the bigger picture. Everyone has their own demons in paradise. Anxiety, depression, addiction – there's no way around it."

Among the album's 15 tracks is "Foscarini DeVito," a Ska-influenced single, and the first Maffa Rico song to introduce world percussion instruments.

"We really stepped outside the comfort zone while recording The Pink Hotel, bringing in underused instruments and rhythms," said drummer Quinn Wholean. "Most importantly, we treated each song as a piece of art. There's no filler on this record, and even given our dark lyrics, it's filled with raw energy."

The Pink Hotel was recorded, mixed and mastered at Blast House Studios in Madison, Wisconsin by Landon Arkens, who has worked directly with David Gilmour and Roger Waters; Paul Simon; and other rock and roll icons.

Funded entirely through Kickstarter and released on the band's self -titled independent label, The Pink Hotel is currently available for download on iTunes. It is also available to stream on Spotify, as well as the band's YouTube, SoundCloud and BandCamp channels.

"We owe this milestone to our loyal fans," said Berthiaume. "We're grateful for the incredible support we've received over the years that allows us to continue on this amazing journey."

Maffa Rico will host an exclusive Pink Hotel release party tonight in downtown Madison, where physical copies of the album may be purchased. Giroux says the band plans to book a handful of shows in support of the release, in addition to creating an official music video for another album track, "The Pink Hotel, Pt. 1."

The Pink Hotel is the band's second studio endeavor, as it released its eponymous extended play in August of 2013, which is also available through major music networks.

Established in 2012, Maffa Rico is a Wisconsin-based group dedicated to energetic live performances with elements of spontaneity. The band blends genres ranging from Latin to metal while maintaining funk undertones.
