The First Tee Of The Triangle’s 10th Anniversary Gala to Feature Governor Pat McCrory, Annika Sörenstam

Governor and Internationally Lauded Female Golfer to be Special Guests at Local Youth Development Organization’s Special Event on Sept. 20

Raleigh, NC, September 19, 2014 --(PR.com)-- The First Tee of the Triangle, a nonprofit organization dedicated to impacting the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf, has announced that its 10th Anniversary Gala will be held Saturday, Sept. 20 from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. at the Carolina Country Club, located at 2500 Glenwood Ave. North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory and Annika Sörenstam, an iconic female golfer, will be the special guests for the evening.

Sörenstam has achieved 89 worldwide victories, including 72 on the LPGA, 10 of which are major championships. Often called “Ms. 59,” she is the only female to break 60 strokes in an official event. In 2007, she created the ANNIKA Foundation in 2007 to help children live a healthy, active lifestyle through fitness and nutrition and to offer opportunities to aspiring youth golfers. The organization recently collaborated with The First Tee and Florida Hospital for Children to develop The First Tee Nine Healthy Habits, a list of nine health and wellness topics to promote healthy, active lifestyles for young people.

During the event, Governor McCrory and Sörenstam will help present the special Community Partner of the Decade, Volunteer of the Decade and Participant of the Decade awards. In addition, auctioneer Ben Farrell will host a live auction to raise funds in support of The First Tee of the Triangle’s various programs. Auctioned items will include golf packages and memorabilia, a trip to Napa Valley, a suite at an upcoming Carolina Panthers football game and a dining experience at the Angus Barn Wine Cellar. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by acclaimed comedian Henry Cho, as well as the John Brown Band.

This inaugural gala celebrating the 10th anniversary of The First Tee of the Triangle presents the opportunity to celebrate the impact that this youth development organization has had in the Triangle community for the past decade. In 2009, there were 858 program participants. Today, more than 4,500 kids are served annually. This year alone, more than 1,000 new participants entered the program, and that number is expected to double in the next three years. Through this gala, The First Tee of the Triangle not only hopes to thank those who have made this organization possible for the past decade, but also help to further extend the organization’s impact for years still to come.
