The Grauer School to Host Open House on November 15th

Encinitas, CA, October 09, 2014 --( The Grauer School will host an Open House event for prospective families on Saturday, November 15, 2014, on its Encinitas campus from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. Tours will be conducted every 20 minutes and interested families are encouraged to tour the facilities and meet with faculty, administration, matriculated students, and current Grauer families.

“This year, we are continuing to offer an online registration option on our website that allows families to simply check-in and queue up for a tour rather than having to wait in line to register the day of the event. At the Open House, visitors will be guided through the campus by Grauer students and will be introduced to faculty, who will explain our academic and extra-curricular programs, including all-seasons athletics, performing arts, robotics, film, leadership, and community service,” states Sandy Merten, Associate Director of Admissions. “Our programs attract families who are looking to balance academic rigor with the personal development of each individual student. We also offer outstanding support for independent athletes who need a customized schedule.”

The Grauer School, grades 7-12 college preparatory, is the regional leader in the small schools movement. The Grauer School focuses on college preparatory rigor balanced with expeditionary learning and Socratic teaching. As a small school by design, with approximately 150 students total, The Grauer School emphasizes relationship-based teaching that stems from its small class sizes with a student to teacher ratio of 7 to 1.

Merten comments that The Grauer School’s feeling of connection is what families most frequently note once they have stepped foot on campus. She believes the emphasis on relationship-driven education is the reason for the school’s superior college acceptance rates. “Last year, 89% of our graduates received acceptance to their first choice school. These are results that have not been obtained at larger, more impersonal, schools. The data speaks for itself. This year 100% of matriculated students surveyed school-wide indicated that they feel like the faculty really care about them. We believe this connection with mentors is vital to the development of self-advocacy and makes our students highly attractive to colleges and universities.”

Admissions applications are due January 30th. To learn more about Admissions Timeline and The Grauer School experience, visit or call 760/274-2116. The Grauer School is enrolling grades 7-12 for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The Grauer School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a member of the California Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), a member of the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS) and is the only school in the region to be honored as a designated UNESCO school. The Grauer School was recently named one of The San Diego Business Journal’s Best Places to Work in San Diego. The school serves as a successful educational model for hundreds of private schools around the world through the Small Schools Coalition (SSC) established by Founding Head, Dr. Stuart Grauer.
